Right after the hot mic videotape of Donald Trump bragging that he was so awesome he could get away with grabbing women’s genitals and sticking his tongue down their throats without their consent surfaced on October 7, several prominent Alabama Republicans unendorsed Trump, because apparently sexual assault is not consistent with Alabama Christian values. Both Governor Robert Bentley and Representative Bradley Byrne (who writes terrible political op-ed pieces) quickly denounced Trump and said they would no longer support them.
Neither of these family values guys had the courage to stick to their guns, though, and both quickly walked it back, issuing “clarifications” (also known as “crawfishing”) that they were both supporting the GOP ticket from top to bottom, including the proud pussy-grabber.
On the other hand, Montgomery’s Martha Roby, who represents Alabama’s Second Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, maintains that she flat out will not vote for Trump. Clearly she is made of sterner stuff than wimps Bentley and Byrne. Blue Southerner, which in general thinks Roby is a right-wing idiot, applauds her courageous stance in denouncing Trump.
An Alabama GOP group in her district, though, has its feelers hurt that Roby is not fully supporting Trump like that moron Frances Taylor, who I wrote about yesterday. According to Alabama Media Group:
An invitation for U.S. Rep. Martha Roby to speak at a meeting of the Pike County Republican Women has been retracted after she said she could no longer support GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump.
The president of the group, Shirley Reddoch, made the issue pretty clear:
“The Pike County Republican Women have always had a good relationship with Congressman Roby,” Reddoch told the Troy Messenger. “We’ve had a lot of negative comments about her coming out in opposition to Donald Trump and the potty mouth that he had.”
Potty mouth is what happens when I stub my toe. Trump’s disgusting statements about getting away with sexual assault are a far cry from dropping a few F-bombs because your computer freezes up.
Roby is also facing a write-in challenge from Tea Party nutjob Becky Gerritson, who Roby stomped in the Republican primary. Here’s some deranged ranting from Gerritson, who apparently thinks Trump ought to be able to crotch-grab as many ladies as he wants:
In a post on a Tea Party website, Gerritson said voters are “furious” about Roby’s statements.
“I understand the frustration of voters who are fed up with politics as usual. Donald Trump represents hope for those individuals, and they are not about to give up that hope. Candidates like Trump, (Texas Sen. Ted) Cruz, and (retired physician Ben) Carson were welcomed by disenfranchised Republicans because they pledged to break the cycle of the political elites and big-money lobbyists from controlling our politics,” she said.
She seems nice. She might ought to look up the word “disenfranchised” in the dictionary, though.
As far as would-be dictator Donald Trump is concerned, Martha Roby is absolutely doing the right thing. Guess we shouldn’t be shocked that the rest of the gutless Alabama GOP doesn’t agree.
