Let’s spend a minute talking about something other than Donald J. Trump and the dumpster fire of a cabinet that he is putting together.
We here at Blue Southerner are often criticized (of course) for not reporting on stupid things that liberals do.
How about this?
Yesterday Alabama Media Group’s AL.com reported that a dumb Alabama liberal posted a truly wretched thing on his personal Facebook page. Take it away, AMG:
On Nov. 29, Coleman Bonner of Wessington in Chilton County posted a message to his personal Facebook page in regards to the wildfires in Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and Sevier County, Tennessee.
“Funny story. I was recently in Gatlinburg. Had a terrible time. I felt the place was a cesspool of consumerism and a bastion of the worst aspect of southern culture. Turns out a wildfire just burned most of the town to the ground. Good riddance, Gatlinburg. And good luck you mouth-breathing, toothless, diabetic, cousin-humpin,’ mountain-dew chugging, moon-pie-munchin,’ pall-mall smoking,’, Trump-suckin’ pond scum. (Chuckles and smiles like the smarmy liberal elitist I am,” Bonner wrote.
The thing about posting awful junk like this on social media is that the backlash is often overwhelming. Bonner was inundated with posts and tweets; outraged readers reported him to the FBI; and his employer fired him because apparently they did not know that Bonner was an insane “smarmy liberal elitist” who, among other bad things, hates the South. Bonner has deleted his Twitter and Facebook accounts. He seems real nice.
The timing of AMG’s story is interesting from yr editor’s personal perspective. When I checked the comments on the website this morning, there was a number of comments by somebody on my story about Trump’s selection of Steven Mnuchin as Treasury Secretary, where I asked Trump supporters if they realized yet that Trump was a con man. This commenter was not pleased. He expressed the distinct desire to drag me away from my keyboard and beat me senseless. After deleting the comments and blocking the guy, I posted on my personal Facebook page about having passed the milestone of being personally threatened by a commenter, and one of my conservative friends (I’m talking about you, Davis) noted that liberals are also guilty of using violent rhetoric against Trump supporters.
Not five seconds later I saw AMG’s story about this moron Bonner and his cheering on the destruction of a great Southern town, calling its residents “Trump-suckin’ pond scum.”
Damn, Davis. You’re 100 percent right.
Hateful and violent rhetoric is bad. It needs to stop. And it doesn’t matter whether the vitriol is used in service of the right or the left. It is just as bad either way. It undermines our civil society and threatens to tear our country apart.
Plus, I like Mountain Dew. What’s wrong with that?
